What a humble person. Thanks for sharing your inner peace with us at Goodwood College.

EMPTY SPACES - ONGOING

2013/2014 We demarcated this area [as shown in the photos] as a potential enclosed venue to add value to our learners. [It was an area designed to serve as a "refreshment" base]. "Later on it became a security risk."
View the progression when you read this blog. "It is an ongoing art work." We will keep you posted on the the end result and the ultimate Launch from people who care. This area will serve as a "Reading room" and we will equip it with resources to enhance learning at our school. We have established a general policy of upliftment in our school. Grand West and their environmental outreach programme, saw potential in our school and they assisted us in this whole venture.
Area before we renovated it.

GOODWOOD COLLEGE & GRAND WEST PARTNERSHIP

Grand West was instrumental in upgrading our school's infrastructure. Before we reveal all that they have done, we first need to thank them formally. Learners at our school are reaping the benefits of our partnership already. It brings a whole new dimension to school pride. We will have a formal launch function and then we will keep you updated with photo's. Thank you Grand West for investing in education. We will show our appreciation:
More about this later...

National Water week - Elsieskraal river clean up

Wow! Dankie julle...

2014 Spirit of the Youth Programme - 4 Learners from Goodwood College

We found the following information on the internet about this fantastic opportunity for 4 of our learners. Good luck to the 4 chosen ones.

What is Spirit of Youth?
The Spirit of Youth programme is a forum in which 11th and 12th grade learners critically engage on relevant issues that they may better define and actuate the South Africa in which they would like to live.

Learners are selected on the criteria that each has distinguished her- or himself as a leader in their school community. The expectation is that these young people are likely to have a disproportionally high impact on their immediate peers and society-at-large.

The programme brings together learners from a myriad of social, economic, geographical and educational experiences with policymakers and businesspersons from across Gauteng. Our aim is that this year-long discourse will develop new understanding of the South African context and its possibilities.
The Lucky 4 is: Aufstralia van Staden; Kerishnie Schaeffers; Bevan Magerman (at the back) Vuyani Vuyelwa

17 March 2014 - YOUTH ENTREPRISE SOCIETY - GOODWOOD COLLEGE

FIRST MARKET DAY FOR THE YES ENTHUSIASTS. Well done to all the organizers for a very successful day. From the happy faces I saw on the day, it sure was evident that the learners enjoyed this venture very much. The learners had 18 stalls in the main hall and they had coach teachers who gave them advice on how to manage a stall on a 'market day'.

LORENZO COLEMAN we salute you!!!!

CAT - Grade 10 - Reward initiative

What started as a joke, became a very serious competition! In the theory class, Mr Barkhuizen said that if one studies for money, then learners will perform. He put up a reward sum of R100 for the learner who came up tops in the Term 1 formal theory assessment.

CONGRATULATIONS Lorenzo Coleman with your 74% result.

Close on his heels was: Andrew Jacobs 72%, David Balanganayi 70%, Mitchell Gouws 70%, Adrian Russel 70%, Owen Vuyolwethu Soka 70%. (The girls must seriously study to be in this circle of top achievers!!!!)

Mr Barkhuizen hands the prize money to Lorenzo Coleman.
The photo was taken by our CAT photographer Crystley van der Linde.

Somehow this post on the blog does not appear anymore. Thanks for letting me know.

Ernest Angley Christian group visits us for Assembly

18 February 2014 - a visit from the USA, while on a miracle crusade in Elsies River.
What a fantastic experience to feel the love for Christ and thank you for the number of prayers we have received from these young people. They are so dedicated to spread the Word of God that some of them had to take on as much as 3 jobs to enable them to tour to South Africa. WE ARE SO HUMBLED BY YOUR VISIT. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!

20 FEBRUARIE 2014 - FINAL INITIATION OF GRADE 8 GROUP

GRADE 8 - BLAZER CEREMONY

During this prestigious event which is a FIRST in the history of Goodwood College, the Grade 8 learners turned up in great numbers. All ready to wear their blazers to school. We thank all Grade 8 educators under the leadership of Me Sharon Coetzee for this initiative. This make the Grade 8 group worthy "citizens" of our great institution. They also displayed the 5 pillars on which they want to build school pride: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Citizenship.

GOODWOOD COLLEGE ENTREPRENEURSHIP CLUB 2014

Entrepreneurship Club's fact finding visit to Granny's Green Nursery at Grand West.
Coordinating teachers are currently investigating possible projects to introduce to the learners of the Entrepreneurship Club.
We spent a great afternoon there on invitation of the CSI manager and the staff of Granny's Green Nursery.
Staff members were shuttled around the Grand West grounds, taken on a guided tour around the nursery and ended the afternoon with refreshments in the Boma and gifts of plants and Vermitea from our hosts.

Thank you Grand West! We look forward to build and extend our partnership!

LITNUM AWARDS 2013

"In our pursuit of excellence, we hover one moment to honour 2013's performance" - Literacy and Numeracy Award for schools of more than 600 learners. We will be pursuing this in 2014.

Our team of educators is committed to ensure that all learners experience a good and solid education in the classroom. We are driven to dedicate our energy to uplift, take them to a higher level in education and to make their day at school worth their attendance. Thank you teachers of Goodwood College for your dedication and long hours.
Award presented to Me Virginia Africa and Me Sharon Coetzee on behalf of Goodwood College.

Smell the ocean! See the landscape! Be part of it!

"We did not inherit 'earth' from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children".

May God Bless us when we take our devoted learners to see the majestic coastal line from our school to Simons Town. An educational trip that will rock our existence in Goodwood College. The quote in green is the slogan for our Grade 12 CAT practical assignment for 2014. It is our dream that all of our learners will take part in our venture to raise funds and enlighten young minds. This is going to be a true exercise in school pride and "team building". How can one not see the beauty of our Cape Town landscapes?

Photo collage compiled by the "reconnaissance"- team.

I wish I had the time to do the coastal train trip, but the trip on a beautiful day like today, was even better by car on my way back home around Cape Point and Kommetjie.

RUNNING FOR RCL - 2014 - VRL ASPIRASIES

RCL:  Today the manifesto's were made public / VRL:  Vandag was die "manifesto's" opgeplak vir almal om te sien.

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy - Norman Vincent Peale.

To put your intentions to be a leader on paper, takes a lot of thought.
As mens jou voornemens op papier sit om as leier op te tree het mens pure innerkrag.
Sterkte aan al die leerders, hierdie is maar 4 van 'n hele trop!

2013 Matric Results

What a buzz at school today. While everyone is still on holiday, the school was handing out the results of the 2013 NSC candidates. Our school boasted an astounding 96.4% pass rate. We had 83 matrics who wrote the exam and only 3 missed the minimum requirements due to their Home Language assessment standard. Our TOP candidate, Jason van der Berg, achieved an average of 81%. We are so proud!
